This event in a series of contemporary literary evenings at the Palace of Arts introduces a cast of new players embarking on new and surprising intellectual adventures in the now customarily bubbly and entertaining style. The main stops on the career of this evening’s guest are Vámosmikola, Szeged and Budapest, while his oeuvre features strange characters such as the traditional sorrowful gnomes, little Herner's old man, the son of the berry gardener, or the boy Géza. Háy's roots – as he writes... in his memoirs – took hold in pure folk soil. And if we add to this that his first word was not “car” or “wallet” but “seed”, then for simplicity’s sake we can call him a child of the common folk, even if the shoots of his personality that grew from those folk roots were defined by the decadent culture of the capital. His teachers have followed his progress with anxiety. He started out studying to become an archaeologist, but during his first dig he accidentally unearthed the remains of his favourite dog. After this, his attention turned increasingly towards rock music. Only then did he take up literature, but then with a vengeance. Drawing, poetry, prose, drama: today’s guest leaves nothing to chance, not only writing but also illustrating his own books, right down to the covers, to make sure that everything is just as he imagines it. As one of the most popular authors in contemporary Hungarian literature, he has published some 20 books. Over the years, his dramas have met with great success, and he has become a much sought-after writer for the theatre. Proceedings are once again kept under the almost angelic control of Alinda Veiszer, while the musical context of the series is provided by the wonderful Bea Palya on the non-existent stage of the Glass Hall. Her radiant naturalness, originality and spontaneity will surely do much to make the evening an experience to last long in the memory. Presented by: Palace of Arts
