The Rising Stars series will be resuming in a new and colourful format: on each evening, two ensembles, soloists or chamber groups at the starts of their careers, and on the verge of world breakthrough, will be taking the stage. At the heart of the initiative is the European Concert Hall Organisation, of which the Palace of Arts has been a member for years. ECHO offers this opportunity each season to a few extraordinarily talented young people in order for them to make their debuts at conc...ert venues of the first rank. Playing in the first part of the concert will be the Austrian Aaron Pilson, whose programme list alone is enough for one to surmise the exceptional nature of his talent. The 19-year-old artist commenced his studies with Iván Kárpáti in Dornbirn, the town of his birth at the western tip of Austria, and then continued at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under the influential Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and later at the Hanover College of Music. He perfected his knowledge with master classes from Alfred Brendel and András Schiff.
To be heard in the second half of the concert will be France's outstandingly successful string quartet, Quatuor Ardeo, which was formed in 2001 by students of the Conservatoire who have repeatedly demonstrated their giftedness at prestigious concerts. The ensemble has developed an interesting profile over the years: not infrequently appearing before audiences with an unusual programme listing or an exciting pairing of pieces, a fact which is reflected in their four album recordings to date. They devote special attention to contemporary music, which has led significant modern composers such as Jonathan Harvey and Kaija Saariaho to work with them.
