Two extraordinary works from the 20th century will be performed at this year’s monumental oratorio concert, an annual tradition stretching back more than two decades. Vajda’s work is a splendid stylistic play on our changing souls and moods, set to the brilliant, multi-layered verse of Domokos Szilágyi, and taking as its starting point the basic theme from the children’s folk song Kiskacsa fürdik. Lloyd Webber’s Requiem represents a departure into the highly dramatic liturgical genre for a born-...and-bred composer of musicals. The composer’s dramaturgical talents do not desert him for a moment as, with characteristic naïvité and natural boldness, he allies his skills as a writer of musicals to his recollections of classical music and the demands of contemporary musical expression. The several hundred-strong choir is assembled each year from dozens of towns across Hungary for this impressive concert performance at the Palace of Arts. Presented by: Interkultur Hungária
