The gala closing evening of the Weöres Year is designed to evoke the multi-faceted genius of Sándor Weöres’s life’s work – with special regard to the connections between music and literature, poetry and dance, and language and philosophy in the poet’s oeuvre and thought. ACT ONE Weöres in Song A selection of both classic and new settings to music of Weöres poems, performed by the Kaláka Ensemble and the Ferenc Sebő Ensemble. Also contributing brand new and exciting Weöres adaptations that p...ay homage to the master are contemporary poets János Lackfi, Krisztina Tóth, T. Anna Szabó and Judit Ágnes Kiss. ACT TWO Sándor Weöres – Dániel Gryllus – Sámuel Gryllus – Csaba Horváth: A teljesség felé (Towards Totality) Sándor Weöres published his volume of metaphysical poetry A teljesség felé at the age of 32. Dániel Gryllus first set this poetry to music in his thirties in the early 1980s. The work was performed on stage, with dramaturgy by the director Katalin Kőváry, wife of the composer. For his father’s 60th birthday, Samu Gryllus rearranged the work in line with the musical expectations of today and asked the cream of several generations of musicians to perform it. An original and complete, reworked version of the Weöres work, adapted for the technical features of the Festival Theatre, will be performed here by renowned representatives of the Hungarian music scene. In order to make the harmony among branches of the arts more visible and complete, in the spirit of Weöres’s concept of art, Csaba Horváth has been commissioned by Müpa to create choreography for the performance.
