Trio Tárogató: Iván Barvich – taragot I, panpipes, Lajos Rónai – taragot II, Attila Csávás – taragot III László Kiss Gy., Csaba Nagy, Gergely Agócs and the Fonó Group, Matocsáv Ensemble The taragot is a traditional Hungarian woodwind instrument and its finest exponents are undertaking to show just how skilful they are and where the taragot now stands. Over the last one hundred and twenty years, it has found itself incorporated into a number of genres. Known since the Millennium as the “reform ...taragot”, this concert also gives an idea of its earlier capabilities. The man who thought up the idea for this concert and hosts it is Iván Barvich, leader of the Trio Tárogató chamber group. Their concept and motto is: “From Gregorian to the National Poem”. We’ll also hear taragot music from the past nine hundred years of course, from “musical archaeological relics” to modern pieces, with unique arrangements exploring ancient, folk, classical and church music. Their guests in this performance represent a diversity of cultural eras and musical genres. Csaba Nagy evokes the world of Baroque, László Kiss Gy. will initiate the audience into the contemporary world of the taragot, while the Matocsáv Esemble and the Fonó Group with Gergely Agócs will play folk music. The full programme has yet to be worked out, so we can boldly expect that lovers of “lighter” genres will not go home without their own taster of the taragot. At the end of the show, the Trio Tárogató and guests will make music on stage together.
