Muzsikás Ensemble (Dániel Hamar, Péter Éri, László Porteleki, Mihály Sipos) Since ancient times, people have been celebrating the victory of light over darkness and natural renewal around the time of the winter solstice. In Hungarian folk tradition, we find many vocal customs linked to this period, from Luca’s day on December 13th, through to celebrations of Bethlehem and the New Year. Our audience today can learn about these traditions and melodies from the winners of the 2008 WOMEX Prize (the... leading international prize in folk and world music) and Prima Primissima awarded Muzsikás Ensemble. But it would not be a true “Muzsikás mood” if at the end, both small and tall don’t join in with the singing and whooping to authentic folk music played by a range of string, plucked and percussion instruments. The performances will be followed by creative educational activities at the Ludwig Museum. Further performances: Glass Hall, 10.30 and 12.00 December 19
