The Palace of Arts now organises the “Wagner in Budapest” Opera Festival for the fourth time. 2009 presents a summary of the previous years and in two and a half weeks; the musicians will again perform all the operas staged so far. Repeating the events of 2008, Der Ring des Niebelungen – probably uniquely in the world – will be performed on four consecutive days, in fact on two occasions as well as Parisfal. The resident orchestra remains the MR Symphonics and Ádám Fischer will conduct each per...formance. He made his debut conducting the Ring at the Bayreuth Festival in 2001. He conducted probably the greatest operatic cycle in music for the next three years on the Green Hill where he returned to conduct Parsifal in 2006 and 2007. In 2007 he received the highly prestigious Eichala chalice which the city of Bayreuth donates to artists who have enjoyed extended periods of success at the Festival. Hartmut Schörghofer was born in Salzburg and studied interior design in Linz before learning set design at the Mozarteum in his native city. He made his international reputation as a set designer primarily at opera houses. These days, he is primarily occupied with opera direction, and his joint role as a set designer allows him to approach operas from an unusual and fruitful angle. John Treleaven is a supreme Wagnerian heroic tenor. He has played the male title role of Tristan and Isolde with such conducting legends as Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado, Kent Nagano and Zubin Mehta. He has also sung Siegfried all over the world, for example at the Lyric Opera of Chicago with Andrew Davies and at London Covent Garden with Antonio Pappano. Michael Roider is a very versatile musician and in 1995 became a soloist at the Vienna Staatsoper. He studied violin and singing at the Salzburg Mozarteum and then won prizes at a number of singing competitions, while continuing to play in the Camerata Academica led by Sándor Végh and the Pro Arte Quartet. In 2009 he will also sing Mime in Rheingold, which he also did in 2008 at the “Wagner in Budapest” Opera Festival. Annamária Kovács was still a first year student at the Academy of Music when she won the role of Delilah at the Erkel Theatre. After finishing her second year, she became a member of the Hungarian State Opera and since then has sung numerous alto roles. She has been a guest performer in several European countries and has also performed frequently in Japan. At the “Wagner in Budapest” Opera Festival she will also sing Erda in Rheingold. Iréne Theorin was born in Sweden and studied in Copenhagen where she made her debut as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Her broad repertoire includes Brünnhilde, Isolde, Sieglinde as well as Senta, Turandot, Elisabeth Valois, Amelia, Eva, and the Leonoras of La Forza Del Destino and Un Ballo in Maschera. In 2000 she was a Walkyre in Bayreuth and in 2008 sang already Isolde.
