This symbolic opera from the 18th century offers an impressive array of Gluck’s operatic innovations. Premièred in Paris in 1779, this opera in four acts was one of the greatest successes of the composer and has been a regular on opera stages all over the world. This exalted work was revived in the Met in 2007 by director Stephen Wadsworth and returns to the repertoire with Susan Graham and Plácido Domingo in the main roles; the two singers were received with rapturous acclaim at the première in... the 2010-2011 season. Conductor Patrick Summers, the music director of Houston Grand Opera, is a regular guest at the Metropolitan and other major opera houses around the world.
