Who’s Behind the Curtain?

2011. February 02.

On the 6th of February, the performance of the winners will not be the only thing conjuring up the atmosphere of the competition also known as the organists' Olympics. The last piece before the intermission, Jehan Alain’s Fantasy No. 2 will be performed by Saki Aoki as well as Dong-ill Shin, with both artists sitting behind a curtain while playing.

One of the unique features of the Chartres competition is the fact that participants sit behind a screen during performance, minimising the chances of favouritism. The organisers of The Chartres Grand Prix Winners night are now inviting the audience to take part in a game. By filling out the ballots specially produced for the occasion, all audience members can cast their votes and try to guess which of the two artists was the first to sit behind the curtain when interpreting the Alain-piece. The ballots may be submitted during the intermission at the Information Desk. The public draw held after the intermission will determine which lucky voters will win two complimentary tickets to see János Pálúr’s organ recital on the 10th of March.
