Michael Nyman: War Work – approved for ages above 16

2014. November 07.

Michael Nyman’s War Work is a show that Palace of Arts only recommends above age 16 due to its content and potentially disturbing visual effects.

Produced for the centenary of the outbreak of World War I, Michael Nyman’s latest show, War Work, will make its debut in Hungary on 28 November in the Palace of Arts. The production is a monumental visual and musical fresco mixed to the powerful pictures of the World War: War Work makes fun of the absurdity of war. With pieces of poetry by authors killed in action and a musical composition never heard before, Nyman puts World War I in a new context, while displaying archive footage of the British, French and German battlefields. The show is a naturalistic presentation of the various facets of war, commemorating “the seminal catastrophe of the 20th century” with multimedia and Gesamtkuntswerk as a real 21st century artwork.
