Every sound begins in your heart – Bravura step-in in MET’s new Hamlet

2010. March 26.

The March 27 transmission of “The Metropolitan Opera Live at the Palace of Arts” is to start at 18:00, presenting Thomas’ Hamlet, composed for Shakespeare’s drama, premiered in New York on March 16.

It is German coloratura soprano Marlis Petersen appearing in the role of Ophelia replacing Natalie Dessay due to an illness. The soprano started singing after extensive piano and flute studies; at the Stuttgart Music Academy, she studied with Szilvia Geszty. She had only four days to prepare for this role before the premiere, yet critics in New York immediately noted her “beautiful and emotionally vulnerable singing, she clearly relishes”.
