Tommy Emmanuel was born in Muswellbrook, Australia in 1955 and it is not an overstatement to call him one of the greatest guitar players of all times. He started playing at age four and in two years time he became a “professional” member of the family orchestra and was playing there until his father’s death in 1966. After that his mentor Buddy Williams helped him, until he was discovered at a talent contest when performing with the band Trailblazers and as a result was able to make the first rec...ording of his own. However, his career could only truly move forward after he had moved to Sydney. In the seventies, he played in Dragon, an Australian cult band, and as a member he had the opportunity to tour with Tina Turner. His first single From Out of Nowhere came out in 1979. This has been followed by fifteen other records; among the contributors were legends like Les Paul, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder and Chet Atkins. In cooperation with Atkins, Emmanuel created the title The Day the Finger Pickers Took over the World that received a Grammy nomination in 1996. His latest record The Mystery in 2006 was also nominated for Grammy Award in the best instrumental country record category. The master of the ten-finger guitar technique creates an unusual “engraving” of country, blues and jazz, whether playing solo or accompanied by others, always dazzles his audience. Add the outstanding acoustics of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall to all this, and the end result will be a sensational performance, at the very least.
