Tommy Emmanuel was born in Muswellbrook in Australia in 1955, and it is scarcely an exaggeration to call him one of the most influential guitarists of all time. He began the guitar at the age of four and two years later was a member of a “professional” family band in which his father played until his death in 1966. His career then aligned with country star Buddy Williams after he was spotted with the Trailblazers group at a talent contest which led to him making his first recording. His career h...as been an unbroken success after moving to Sydney. In the seventies he played with the cult Dragon group in Australia, which was chosen as the support band for one of Tina Turner’s tours. His first solo album, From Out Of Nowhere, was released in 1979. This was followed by a further fifteen, including collaborations with legends such as Les Paul, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder and Chet Atkins, with whom he made The Day the Finger Pickers Took over the World which was nominated for a Grammy award in 1996. His latest CD, The Mystery, which came out in 2006, was also up for a Grammy in the best instrumental country music recording category. Tommy Emmanuel is the master of ten finger guitar technique, uniquely fusing country, blues and jazz, playing solo or with others, and in all cases, astounding his audiences. If we add the peerless acoustics of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall into the mix, we are in for a rare sensation.
