The variety of Levente Szörényi's music is founded on the illustrious icons that preceded him. One of the most influential of these is Willis Conover, who passed away in 1996, and whose deep, baritone voice uttered those immortal words to the millions of music fans who listened to his Voice of America radio show: "Time for jazz”. This special evening will pay tribute to the work of this unforgettable performer.
In the first part of the evening, the world star Joan Faulkner and the Hungarian prince of swing Bálint Gájer will give a live performance of jazz and swing classics, accompanied by the Budapest Jazz Orchestra. Then, Levente Szörényi will revive the hits of his Hungarian bands Illés and Fonográf with the help of big band instrumentation. The Kossuth-prize winning songwriter will blend big beat and country songs with a 1930s and 1940s jazz style for what promises to be an exciting mix. With... Utcán (On the Street), Kéglidal (House Song), Még fáj minden csók (Every Kiss Still Hurts) and Ne gondold (Don't Think About It) from the Illés era, and A széllel szemben (Against the Wind), Edison Magyarországon (Edison in Hungary) and Útközben (On the Go) from the songs of Fonográf, we can expect a genuinely unique listening experience.
Alongside these musical delights, another surprise awaits; over the course of the evening, the performers will recount personal stories and stunning behind-the-scenes revelations from the relevant musical eras that have never been heard before. The evening will also feature a voice that is at least as well known in Hungary as Willis Conover's was to his millions of radio listeners - that of the host, the actor Ákos Kőszegi.
