By the time this concert takes place, Duna Television will have shown its six part series Song of Lives and it may even have been premièred at the cinema. One of the authors of the film, Transylvanian born László Kelemen, who has been living in Hungary since 1986, has travelled through the Mezőség, Gyimes, Moldavia, Székelyföld, Máramaros and Bihar regions (to give them their Hungarian names) of Romania to acquaint himself with the superb Transylvanian Hungarian, Romanian and Gypsy musicians who... live there. These include the Magyarpalatka band, the Szászcsávás orchestra, János Zerkula from Gyimes, András and Szilárd Tötszegi from Méra, Aladár Csiszár from Körtefája, Marcell Kovács and his band from Nagybánya and then Dorel Codoba from Bihar, István “Csipás” Varga from Bánffyhunyad and many others. This film is “the song of their lives” and these very musicians will be appearing at the Palace of Arts together in a remarkable summary of László Kelemen’s Bartókesque explorations of folk music.
