Roberto Fonseca was eight years old when he began playing the piano and fourteen when he took to composing. At the age of fifteen, he created a sensation at the “Havana Jazz Plaza” International Festival. His first record En el Comienzo released in 1999 was the record of the year in Cuba and over the next two years, he released three more, Tiene Que Ver, NoLimit and Elengo. You might be forgiven for thinking that you couldn’t do much more than that in Afro-Cuban jazz. And yet the best was yet t...o come: Fonseca was asked to replace his idol, the late Rubén González in the Buena Vista Social Club in 2003. Since then he has appeared on every album and every BVSC tour, and all without sacrificing his independent career which led in 2007 to his most successful album to date, Zamazu. He brings this material with his own band tonight.
