Ever since his legendary 1991 concert at the Academy of Music, we’ve been waiting for one of the greatest and most versatile geniuses of music, Keith Jarrett to return to Hungary. Born in Allentown Pennsylvania in 1945, he began learning piano at the age of three. He studied classical music but by the time he reached his teens, he was familiar with inner depths of jazz and his discovery tempted him to New York. In 1965 he toured with the Art Blakey Jazz Messengers and became a member of the Char...les Lloyd Quartet. His initiation was complete when in 1970 he began playing keyboards alongside Miles Davis. A year later, he launched his solo career and joined ECM Records, after which he only played acoustic piano. After working with his Scandinavian quartet (with Jan Garbarek, Palle Danielsson and John Christensen) and his American quartet (with Charlie Haden, Paul Motian and Dewey Redman) he formed a standard trio with Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette as his rhythm section and this became the principal forum for his ensemble performances. Among his more than sixty recordings, we can find solo productions which reinterpret the role of the piano in contemporary music. Facing You, Solo Concerts, The Koln Concert, Sun Bear Concerts, Paris Concert, Dark Intervals, Vienna Concert, La Scala and Radiance are displays of solo piano improvisation which span classical music, jazz, gospel, folk music, blues while creating a perfect unity. In September 2006 he released his double album The Carnegie Hall Concert which was also released as a DVD. Jarrett is also an acknowledged classical artist. He has won countless prizes including the Swedish Polar Prize and eight Grammy nominations, as well as close on one hundred “Artist of the Year” or “Recording of the Year” acknowledgements. He has also been the subject of several concert films and one documentary, as well as two monographs.
