György Vukán and Béla Szakcsi Lakatos struck up a friendship in the early 1970s when they both realised they shared a desire for more than just cranking out evergreen jazz compositions or classical works. They decided to explore their own means of expression as well as the essence of the folk music of the Carpathian basin, and when viewed through the joint prisms of their personalities, they created a unique musical dialogue. György Vukán is well known for his concerto works, symphonic pieces, ...ballets, operas, chamber works, film and theatre pieces, as well as being a world performer and also the creator of the Creative Art Group and the Class Jazz Band. Béla Szakcsi Lakatos is no less diverse in his talents: he has written ballets, a rock opera, but also has a profound knowledge of contemporary music, Roma folklore and since the early 1960s, been a stylistic pioneer for Hungarian jazz musicians. More recently his Gypsy jazz productions have earned him even wider recognition across Europe. This concert is the closing cadence of a nationwide tour, a unique excursion by two men exploring the territory where classical music meets jazz.
