For decades, the women’s magazine Nők Lapja has been drawing readers’ attention to what it considers to be the best current cultural programmes, concerts and performers. This spring, however, we get the chance not only to read about them in the pages of the magazine, but to spend an exclusive “cultural afternoon” in the company of some of the country’s favourite artists and the magazine’s writers. With its “Saturday of Culture”, Nők Lapja aims to start a tradition – this year’s event is the firs...t of its kind. ––––––– One of Hungary’s leading popular singers, Zséda promises the audience an exciting experience by performing, with piano and saxophone accompaniment, a selection of songs that are particularly close to her heart. “I’ll include plenty of jazz standards, French chansons, spirituals and my own hits – everything that’s been important to me in my musical career so far, and remains so to this day. These are songs that are typical of me, and which I’ve selected myself. In their catchy melodies, music’s classical values mingle with new, contemporary sounds. This evening will be an exotic journey on which music will be our guide.” –––––––– We love János Kulka when he performs, sings and talks, enchanting everyone with his unusual voice and characteristic cocked smile. In addition to singing chansons when he takes the stage, he also tells stories and describes people and situations. His repertoire easily embraces Charles Aznavour, Leonard Cohen and Sting, just as it does László Dés, Tamás Cseh and Ádám Nádasdy. Besides singing with the piano accompaniment of Gergő Demko, Kulka will also reveal to the audience his connection with the selected songs. –––––––– The film rolls, the cinema sings. The spirits of Sonny Boy and Gelsomina, Mickey Mouse, Katalin Karády, Humphrey Bogart and Dezső Garas all in one place. A musical ramble through film history with Barbara Hegyi and Krisztián Kolovratnik on stage, produced and directed by Pál Sándor, and accompanied by pianist Nelly Szilassy and dramaturg Attila Lőrinczy. Big hits, small stories, literary quotations inspired by the movies: a joyous and sentimental homage to the cinematic greats from Chaplin to Fellini. Hegyi’s relationship with the movies is far from ordinary. “Pali said he’d like to make some kind of behind-the-scenes documentary, and asked us about our first movie experiences. Well, mine was when I was four or five years old, when my mother, an architect and film set designer – so, someone who really wanted to shield me from this profession – took me into the film studios and said to me: Look at these walls well, my little girl, because this is the place you’re never going to set foot in again... In the end, she had to be disappointed.” ––––––––– The fan base of Kossuth Prize-winning performer Zorán is fairly mixed, including young, middle-aged and old, and both male and female lovers of his hit songs. His name is synonymous with the highest standards, with high-minded, intelligent rock music for grown-ups, and with a richness of ideas and images that elevates his songs to a higher level. It is no coincidence that his concerts are always sold out, irrespective of whether he performs with a larger ensemble or in a small band. On this occasion, he performs his biggest hits alongside some new songs, all to his usual impeccable standards. Presented by: Sanoma Media Budapest Zrt., Palace of Arts
