The band has played to huge critical acclaim at New York\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall in London; while through their collaboration with eminent classical musicians they have brought Hungarian folk music to some of the most discerning classical audiences. They have received several prestigious accolades, including the most important international prize for world music and folk music, the WOMEX Award. As usual they will put on a show of Hungarian folk music as it is played from the Danube to Moldavia, in a production that includes performances by a number of guest musicians. Mihály Dresch is one of the most interesting musicians on the Hungarian jazz scene. His work has received worldwide acclaim; his music is flowing, personal and intimate, exuding strength and conviction. He lives his folk culture, consciously representing its underlying heritage, and incorporates elements of authentic Transylvanian folk music into his jazz playing. This is what provides the basis for his soaring improvisation. At this concert, the emphasis will be on music that invokes the spirit of Christmas and the advent. Moldavian-born songstress Mária Petrás presents us with a selection of the beautiful richly embellished advent songs and ballads that she heard as a child in the village of her birth. The line-up of guest musicians is enriched by the Szászcsávás Band and the Szászcsávás Choir, the members of which are simple farmers who, to this day, practise the rare custom of their village: the a cappella
