The poems of Miklós Radnóti, who was born 100 years ago this year, are given an unusual reading in the latest, 19th volume of the Helikon audio book series, in which the works written by the famous poet in his youth are interpreted and performed by a young contemporary artist. The publisher chose Miklós Both, one of the best-known representatives of the ethno-rock scene in Hungary today, to set the poems of one of the most prominent Hungarian lyricists to music, in an experiment that also took v...irtuoso guitarist Both into uncharted territory. The musical influences of the 27-year-old include Jimi Hendrix, Béla Bartók, Gypsy music and folk music, all of which have gone into creating his unique style that blurs the boundaries between folk and rock music. Miklós Both, currently guitarist and singer for the Napra band, cut his teeth playing in groups as well known as Galloping Coroners and Barbaro; but he has also performed as a guest musician with the State Folk Ensemble and Heaven Street Seven. The Napra band uses a combination of electronic and acoustic instruments, and vocals, to interpret Hungarian folk music through modern musical devices. The guitarist’s collection of recordings of traditional folk musicians also contributes to ensuring the authenticity of the band’s performances. Napra’s first album – Oh, What a World! – won the Fonogram prize for Best World Music Album in 2007.
