Kati Kovács is a Hungarian institution. As a singer and actress, she effortlessly found herself a place in the hearts of generations of Hungarians. She became first famous nationally in 1965 when she won the seminal TV talent show “Who Knows What?”. A year later, she achieved an even greater success with her impassioned performance of the song “I Won’t Be Your Play Thing” which won the TV Dance Song Festival. It remains one of the landmarks of Hungarian popular culture. Since then she has enjoye...d great success and her career is still going strong, and her songs still pull the nation’s heartstrings. This is her third concert at the Palace of Arts but the first in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall. As she says, she feels honoured to again be able to give a concert here. But to be able to condense her favourite tunes into just ninety minutes, well that is not easy task since her repertoire contains over four hundred songs. Besides singing, Kati Kovács also writes lyrics. One of her best known works which she also performed is the lyrics to Vangelis’ composition 1492: The Conquest of Paradise. This song, and many others, will be performed at the concert.
