Jon Lord was the keyboard player for Deep Purple, whose hit Smoke on the Water is just as popular in Hungary as elsewhere in the world. His attraction to classical music was immediately apparent. The first striking proof of this was one of the great milestones in the careers of both Deep Purple and Jon Lord, the Concerto for Group and Orchestra which was premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in 1969. Following this, classical music motifs were always present in his rock music, and since leaving Dee...p Purple after 34 years in 2002, he has devoted all his musical energies into his classical music career. The most important work of this period was the Durham Concerto written for the 175th anniversary of the founding of Durham University, which was premiered by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. In March 2010, he released a CD To Notice Such Things which contains a six-movement suite and three other independent pieces, again in collaboration with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. As with last year’s highly successful concert “Hammond Again”, John Lord arrives at the Palace of Arts with a new programme, accompanied by a symphony orchestra and rock band. Besides Cry Free he will be joined by the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra.
