Iva Bittová immediately won a place in the hearts of Hungarian audiences when she first appeared at the Mediawave festival in Győr, and she has been returning regularly ever since. A highly-strung performer with a mastery of the stage oozing from every pore, she has the uncanny ability to silence a hall of any size when she begins to sing and play violin with her loyal musical partner Vladimír Václavek on guitar. She is comfortable in any genre, and equally at home in prayer and irony, classical... and punk, arias and drinking songs. The performance of Iva Bittová and Vladimir Václavek is a part of the Czech Dreams 2011 international cultural project, which aims to popularize Czech music. Bittová was born into a musical family in northern Moravia, and both her older and younger sister are professional musicians. She studied music and theatre at the Brno conservatory from an early age, and has since made a considerable name for herself in both disciplines. In addition to her theatre work, she has appeared on the radio, television and in feature films. She continued her violin studies in 1982 after a long hiatus, before turning all her attention to music following her father's sudden death. Bittová relocated from her Moravian village to Upstate New York in 2007. The singer is just as comfortable performing jazz and rock as she is with classical music and opera. Her inimitable, expressive style plumbs every genre, and she would never nail her colours to the mast of a particular performing style. Instead, she prefers to maintain her natural, “everyday” voice. The violin has been her closest ally throughout her performing career and the mirror reflecting her musical vision; the resonance of her voice and her instrument is the most striking aspect of her stage presence. Václavek has since also embarked on a solo career, achieving success as a singer-songwriter, composer of film scores and member of several bands. Presented by: Palace of Arts
