István Lerch composed an orchestral piece from the most successful songs and soundtracks of his life. On 12 April, excerpts from this work will be performed in the Palace of Arts. We are a long way from the moments when the musician getting acquainted with music played Weiner’s Fox Dance backwards while lying on his back on the piano, or when he played The House of the Rising Sun in front of Russian tourists on the Gellért Hill for one Rouble. The high school band performing contemporary vocal m...usic (the predecessor of the later V’73 that has toured as the opening act of Omega) conquered the audience with classic rock. In 1978, V’ Moto Rock was introduced, and the first evergreen followed soon enough: ’Várj, míg felkel majd a nap’ (Wait Until the Sun Rises). The band was promoted to the Hungarian super group status. By the end of the 1980ies, István Lerch became acquainted with the unwritten rules of composing pop music and his own style was born. In writing a song, he is guided by his soul, but he also takes into consideration the vocal characteristics of the performer whom he is writing for. His muses are changing moods; that is why he considers indifference as the worst human quality. He composes songs on the piano, with eyes closed; first, the melody is born, the lyrics come afterwards. Recently, he has been working on perfecting his new musical experiment: entwining jazz and world music. At the festive concert, all artistic eras of his lifetime will have their place, and current Lerch fans might clap, former V’ Moto Rock fans might glimpse back in nostalgia, and lovers of classic rock based progressive music can also remember their teenage years. „It is wonderful to be a composer, as I can also express my love for someone without words” (I. L.)
