Born 110 years ago, the uncrowned king of jazz Louis Armstrong passed away 40 years ago. In this celebratory concert the Benkó Dixieland Band pays tribute to its icon, the great Satchmo. Benkó’s band has performed Armstrong’s most popular tunes in innumerable concerts both at home and abroad, and now belongs among the few ensembles that preserve the master’s legacy to the highest standard. It is this that has won them the honour of being recognized by two American presidents – Ronald Reagan and ...George W. Bush – and which has kept them going with unflagging energy towards their 10,700th concert. Indeed, their extraordinary popularity can be regarded as a legacy of Armstrong himself. Demanding jazz standards such as Wild Man Blues, West End Blues, Royal Garden Blues and Tiger Rag will be heard in concert alongside much-loved favourites often performed by Satchmo, such as C’est Si Bon, La Vie En Rose, What a Wonderful World, It’s Been a Long, Long Time, and Hello Dolly. Two Hungarian singers – Myrtill Micheller and Berki Tamás – will take the stage for the show, besides guest Papa Fleigh and friends, who will spice up the performance in their own distinctive style.
