Márta Sebestyén – vocals, Hungarian wooden flute, tambourine, Balázs Szokolay Dongó – bagpipe, flutes, saxophone, Mátyás Bolya – koboz (lute), zithers „I saw the door of heavens open...” – Sacred and secular songs The cultural traditions of the Carpathian Basin lead the attentive researcher back to the one thousand years’ cultural history of Europe. Over the centuries, all important Western influences passed to here which, mixed with local customs, were kept in folk memory almost until the t...wentieth century. In the Eastern regions of Europe, Hungarians and other peoples living with them have preserved old European traditions (going back to ancient times) that may have already been forgotten in the Western part of the continent. Europe is the cradle of today’s world; its traditions are the roots of this modern world. It is very important that we, Europeans, appreciate our cultural heritage, interconnected through a thousand links, and use it bravely, as we use our mother tongue. Comparing oral tradition with the written heritage is an enjoyable and illuminating adventure. The old-fashioned presentation preserved revives the dead script, the polyphonic fragments unfolding from book covers and the verse chronicles published in primitive scores. The programme of the album release concert lines up fragments of the European past that have been preserved and developed by Hungarian tradition.
