In a career charting an unbroken upward path for 30 years, the Holmes Brothers bring the powerful elements of blues, gospel, soul, R&B, rock ’n’ roll and country to the ever-growing fanbase of world music. In addition to their eclectic sound, the formation is also unique in that the three of them perform the work of six musicians – the trio provides the vocal accompaniment to their instruments on stage. The two Holmes brothers, Sherman on double bass and Wendell on guitar, are completed by drumm...er Popsy Dixon and released their latest album, entitled Feed My Soul, following the recent recovery of Wendell from cancer. The songs revolve around the universal themes of friendship, loyalty, family, growing old, illness, affairs of the soul and politics, but are infused with the humour so typical of the Holmes Brothers. “The Holmes Brothers deliver magnificent old time, gospel-style R&B, and raw electric blues with unparalleled artistry and authenticity. Sherman’s bottomless baritone, Wendell’s classic soul singer’s wail and Popsy’s otherworldly falsetto do more than complement one another; on stage or in the recording studio, the three become like a mystical fourth entity,” the Chicago Tribune reports.
