The whole country has familiarised itself with the miraculous energy flooding from Ghymes’s music and now it is the turn of MUPA! The band believes strongly that it is the energy of live music and the magic of the moment that guarantees their success. For many years, the story of the Ghymes band was interwoven with the Fonó Buda Music House. For years, their concerts at the Fonó were unique occasions and they developed a huge following. The critics were impressed and the group won many prizes: ...Don Quijote Prize 2001, For Hungarian Arts Prize 2001, The Golden Giraffe world music/jazz category 2001, 2002, eMeRTon Prize – best Hungarian band from beyond the borders (Hungarian Radio) 2002, Béla Bartók Memorial Prize 2006, Pro Renovanda Cultura Hungariae Foundation Prize 2008 and the Hungarian Heritage title 2008. Ghymes arrive at the MUPA as the first event in the Fonó Buda Music House autumn concert series to celebrate their 15th jubilee. Ghymes’s sound is strongly shaped by Tamás Szarka’s music and literary lyrics, which are supplemented and made complete by Gyula Szarka’s folk based music.
