István “Szalonna” Pál – violin, Róbert Lakatos – violin, viola, Miklós Both – guitar, Dudás Mihály Dresch – wind instruments, Kálmán Balogh – cimbalom, Balázs Vizeli – violin, Éva Korpás, Ágnes Herczku – singers, Róbert Doór – double bass, László Mester – viola This is more than extraordinary: this meeting of top fiddlers is unique. We should clarify immediately that these performers are not drawn from those who play Gypsy music for tourists. We don’t mean fiddlers in the everyday sense. But th...ese virtuoso soloists who – even though many come from the worlds of jazz, rock or world music – will be playing exclusively folk music. We can learn which regional melodies and recordings have prompted them as bandleaders to return time and again to folk music for inspiration. Traditional masters of folk music will accompany them all, double bass player Róbert Doór and viola player László Mester; the “leader” will be none other than Róbert Lakatos who is distinguished in both serious and jazz music. They will be paired with such great folk music personalities as István “Szalonna” Pál and Balázs Vizeli, and top singers such as Ágnes Herczku and Éva Korpás.
