In the past few years, UK-based New Zealand singer-songwriter and guitarist Connan Mockasin has gathered a sizeable fan base among both discerning music fans and professional peers. Having started out in a “blues-pop” band named Connan and The Mockasins, he launched his solo career in 2008 through a collaboration with Fatboy Slim (The BPA feat. Connan Mockasin: Jumps The Fence), before releasing his first solo album in 2010 on the label of London DJ and producer Erol Alkan (initially under the t...itle Please Turn Me Into The Snat, and then re-released in expanded form as Forever Dolphin Love). In 2012, Mockasin and his band accompanied actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg and toured as the support band for Radiohead. This extravagant troubadour and exponent of spaced-out psychedelic pop music has been favourably likened by critics to legendary experimentalists in rock history such as Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett and Beach Boys genius Brian Wilson, or to contemporary cult figures such as Daniel Johnston, Ariel Pink and Sufjan Stevens. With his second solo album promised by the end of 2013, Connan Mockasin gives his first concert in Hungary at the Palace of Arts. Opening for Connan Mockasin at this concert with her project entitled morningdeer, Krisztina Dányi is a singer-songwriter who occupies a similarly magical musical world, having emerged as one of the most exciting talents on the Hungarian lo-fi bedroom pop scene with her 2011 debut album Days. Her second album, entitled Concert On A Twig, was released in summer 2013 on Japan’s Whereabout Records, and was even distributed in the UK and US prior to its scheduled release in Hungary in September. The twenty-something singer and guitarist, who produces her own records, is accompanied in her morningdeer concert incarnation by three fellow musicians: Bálint Bolcsó and András Halmos, handling electronics and rhythms, and Ádám Mészáros, lead guitarist from Bori Péterfy’s Love Band.
