When films learned to talk, people realised they could be made to sing as well. In the first speaking movie there was a song and the first important Hungarian speaking movie, Hyppolit, the Butler also featured numerous great songs. Since then, film makers have known just how important a title song or a well placed musical number can be to the success of a movie. In the good old days, these melodies were sung by cobbler’s apprentices, today we tend to hear them from the radio as a distraction fro...m the morning rush-hour. One thing is for sure: the majority immediately evoke moods, images, actors and stories. Never say, Great journey, A kind of America, Drop of the sea, Cha-cha-cha, It doesn’t work alone, Love till first blood, I love you, “Puszinyuszi”, Dollybirds… we can sing our way through Hungarian film history. Or rather, we can let Andrea Szulák, Andrea Malek, Dóri Behumi–Orsi Kozma–Eszter Váczi (ex Jazz+Az), Magdi Rúzsa, Bebe, Attila Dolhai, Caramel and Iván Kamarás do it for us!
