Perhaps the crowning moment in the series of 2007 celebrations marking the 125th anniversary of Zoltán Kodály was the inauguration of the folk music faculty at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in September. This is the initiative which is perhaps most profoundly identified with Kodály’s spirit. This concert aims to bring Hungarian public awareness to this long awaited event and it has created tremendous professional interest all over the world. It is a gala show which places in its focus folk m...usic and classical music (in the spirit of Bartók and Kodály) with musicians who have worked wonders in bringing down the barriers between both genres. We’ll hear Jenő Jandó and the Muzsikás group together playing Bartók’s Allegro barbaro, Ferenc Kiss and the Etnofon Music Company paying homage to Kodály’s Song of the Peacock as well as the finest exponents of Hungarian, Southern Slav and Roma folk music.
