January 2008. Called “Faculty Opening – Celebration of Folk Music” it took its direction from the work of Bartók and Kodály, showing the relationship between folk and art music. And it was a huge success, which encouraged the Palace of Arts and the colleagues in the folk music faculty to organise a “celebration of folk music” every year. This time the audience will get taster of how folk music teachers and students at the Academy of Music faculty play together. When assembling the programme, the most important objective remained to bring together the “grand old men” of the genre and the “young hopes”, in other words, the finest of our Hungarian, South Slav and Gypsy folk music tradition.
