Bea Palya is one of the most exciting and versatile personalities of the younger generation. She not only makes music but is no less creative in her writing and lyrics. She began her career with folk music, including Hungarian, Gypsy, Bulgarian and even Indian music. Later on, folk met jazz and other improvisational genres, while she has kept on renewing the musical language of her own lyrics, constantly experimenting. "There is no way I can stay; I have no house or an armchair”, I wrote in th...e song Sofia Express in 2006. This seems to be changing now, and change is something I have got used to and so has my audience, to some extent, since the only thing I can promise for certain is that I keep changing all the time and so does the music that I play. But what there is deep inside of me now, where the music springs up from me, is something even I am surprised at. I really have a desire to slow down, I really wish to play only – to sit back and relax and unload much of the burden I have piled up upon myself. I have done so much walking (and will do some more indeed), and I have vibrated outwards so excessively (and will continue to do so indeed), but there is something now that is drawing me inwards. Towards intimacy, even during a concert. To me, an armchair has always been a symbol of being forced to stay at one and the same place, sticking to a stiffened civic lifestyle, frozen musical frameworks. Now, an armchair has gained a new meaning for me: all of a sudden I sit down in an armchair myself, which is soft and comfortable, embracing me. I have some rest in it, so as to be able to fly even further afterwards. Having a rest and moving on are no longer contradictory concepts to me: in fact they are coexistent. Everything keeps moving, and yet there is absolute tranquility… The world that I live in and create around me is widening and unfolding. I keep travelling and writing, and singing on the rocks on the shore... and of course in concert halls to my audience. With my music, I tell them about what there has been and what there is to come. But the past and the future are all the same anyway, since the essence of life is spaceless and timeless. Here and now I show you the music that is playing from inside of me." Bea Palya
