Selection from Jon Lord’s recent works: Sarabande, One from the Meadow, Pavane, The Telemann Experiment, Wait a While, Pictured Within, Gigue The English Hammond organ player and pianist, Jon Lord is known to just everyone as the ex-keyboard player of Deep Purple: we only have to think of the great hit Smoke on the Water. Originally though he studied classical music and in parallel to... being a rock musician, he has also continually written symphonic works over the last forty years. His composition Concerto for Group and Orchestra was premièred at the London Royal Albert Hall in 1969 and was one of the most influential compositions of the sixties, making an impact on later generations including Elvis Costello and Queen. His more recent albums include the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic accompanying his Hammond organ playing in the Durham Concerto written for the 175th anniversary of the founding of Durham University; his latest CD Boom of the Tingling Strings was published in March 2008.
