Using elements of Russian folk tales, The Soldier’s Tale was written by the poet Ramuz and the composer Stravinsky. Their aim was to take their small travelling company on a tour of cities to present a theatrical work with music, narration and dance. The play tells the story of a soldier who has sold his soul to the Devil and his desperate struggle to free himself from evil’s grip. A series of exciting and startling twists and turns lead to a conclusion worthy of a bitterly ironic thriller....
