We hear extracts from two of Claude... Debussy’s best known orchestral works. Again, the sea is a silent character in Britten’s opera Peter Grimes from which the Four Sea Interludes are drawn. Arnold Schoenberg also strived to exploit a thousand shades of colour and he entitled the third movement of his Five Orchestral Pieces “Summer morning by the lake: chord colours”
