Conducted and hosted by Mátyás Antal Featuring: Anikó Für, Pál Mácsai – narrators Marianne Poncelet–György Orbán: The Wonder Tree – symphonic story (world première) Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf Each performance of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra’s youth series attempts to connect music to some other art form: in this last concert, the focus is on fairy stories, with the help of a well-known exceptionally popular work, and a brand new one. Both were created to help children u...nderstand and become familiar with orchestral sonorities, the possibilities of musical expression and in both, a narrator tells the story. Prokofiev’s work was written in 1936, György Orbán’s some seventy years later. He composed this more than twenty minute work to a tale by Marianne Poncelet. She is a Belgian writer and a close colleague of Yehudi Menuhin and since 1991 has been the secretary of the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation. The Hungarian version of The Wonder Tree was created by the translator, writer and Attila József Prize winning poet Krisztina Tóth and it is this text that György Orbán has set to music.
