“Microcosm” is a word of Greek origin meaning “world in miniature”. This is also the title of a series of six short piano pieces written by Béla Bartók between 1926 and 1939. These works present music “in miniature” for the benefit of children discovering music and learning to play the piano, journeying from the first small steps to the problems of complex composition typical of 20th century music. Bartók is not the only composer to have written music for teaching purposes. This concert will giv...e an audience of school groups a chance to listen to a selection of music for children from a long line of great composers, and thereby gain an insight into the difficult and exhausting climb from the first step to the peak of musical ability. Our guides on this journey – alongside the composers themselves – are Gábor Eckhardt, a teacher at the Liszt Academy and Bartók Conservatory, and his students. Tickets for school groups can be reserved by contacting hangar@mupa.hu. Age range: 8-15 Presented by: Palace of Arts
