The ideal of the Romantic artist is embodied in Franz Liszt: at once citizen of the world and Hungarian patriot, seductive male and cleric, wandering virtuoso and hugely prolific composer, unique celebrity and loyal friend to many. Young pianist Balázs Fülei provides us a glimpse into this eventful career, not only as concert performer, but also as a presenter. The second half of the concert features The Four Elements, a cycle for piano and male choir. The separate symphonic poem entitled Les Pr...éludes, later composed as an overture to the cycle, would become one of Liszt’s most popular works.
