Text by: József Romhányi Performed by the Aladár Tóth Opera Studio Artistic director: Judit Pallagi Musical directors: Andrea Bagi, Barnabás Hegyi Director: János Tóth Programme host: Szilvia Becze The composer György Ránki was born almost a hundred years ago to the day, on October 30th 1907, and passed away in 1992. He is an important figure in 20th century Hungarian music. At the Academy of Music, he was a pupil of Zoltán Kodály and his first great success was his fairy tale opera King... Pomade’s New Clothes based on an Andersen tale. The Adventures of Peter the Musician in Instrument Land is an entertaining and exciting piece that leads children to a unique world, accessible by everyone. The success of the piece owes much to the superb and witty verses of József Romhányi. (He was also responsible for the widely admired Hungarian text for The Flintstones!) We will find ourselves quietly smiling these days when a pocket radio is spoken of as a great technological marvel but let us not forget it was written forty years ago. The world has changed tremendously since then, but the essence of music hasn’t at all. For this reason, today’s children can enjoy the adventures of Peter the Musician with just as much pleasure as grandparents did all those years ago.
