Hungarian composer György Ránki who is one of the most colourful Hungarian composers, was inspired by the famous story by Danish fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen The Emperor's New Clothes to compose an upbeat, witty fairytale opera King Pomádé's New Clothes. In order for a true opera to emerge from Andersen's tale, the composer has coloured Amy Károlyi's version of the original story with numerous witty ideas. Ránki's opera has the feel of folk music about it, and we hear melodies that a...re reminiscent of folk songs as well as the sparkling rhythms of “city folk music,” in other words, jazz!
