Musical instrument historian Róbert Mandel continues his series of concerts in the Palace of Arts into 2011. The third concert in the series focuses on the marvellous instruments of the Baroque period, including the dulcimer, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy and lute-harpsichord. The concert will feature works by Michel Corrette, who died in 1795 at the age of 87 having lived through most of the 18th century, and whose music has been recorded by Mandel and the Ensemble Le Berger Fortuné. Members of the lat...ter include Jean-Christophe Maillard, a master of the Baroque bagpipes, and Pál Németh, the artistic director of Hungary’s Savaria Baroque Orchestra. The concert will also feature Thilo Hirsch of Germany, an exponent of the marine trumpet (tromba marina). Those wishing to learn more about the fascinating world of the Baroque orchestra should not miss this unique opportunity.
