Mozart composed his marvellous fairytale opera, The Magic Flute, in the last year of his life. Disguised as a fairytale, it is both a folksy and a philosophical moral story put into music. The libretto was written by Mozart's Masonic lodge brother Emanuel Schikaneder, who aimed to promote his suburban theatre with the fairytale opera. The Magic Flute shows the struggle between darkness and evil powers and the ideals of beauty, goodness and wisdom. The choreography brings the opera to life in the... language of dance, retaining its principal episodes. The performance is a modern theatre setting of the opera, blended with expressionism and today's contemporary dance styles to present the story of the opera, its playfulness, depths and mystery.
