The influential folk dance researcher and folklore musicologist György Martin would have been 80 years old in early February 2012. His legacy remains significant in charting the history of both dance and theatre. György Martin began his career as a professional dancer, working as a folk dance researcher for the Institute for Folk Culture before joining the MTA Folk Music Research Group. He took up a position at the MTA Musicology Institute from 1974 until his death. From 1951, he regularly stud...ied local folk dance and music traditions, not just in Hungary, but also in the villages of surrounding countries. Much like Bartók, he also established close friendships with other folk researchers in the Central European region. On 30 January 2012, this gala performance by the Duna Art Ensemble, the Honvéd Dance Theatre and the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble will pay tribute to the life and work of György Martin. Presented by: Hungarian National Dance Theatre
