The Cirque Le Roux performs in the tent set up next to the Palace of Arts. The company has already toured internationally shows of an original mood (The 7 Fingers, Circus Monti, Vague du Cirque), which were always enthusiastically received by audiences and the profession alike. They won the bronze medal at two highly prestigious festivals of contemporary circus: the Festival Mondial Cirque de Demain, Paris, and the Sol y Circo of Germany.
The four artists, Lolita Costet, Grégory Ars...enal, Philip Rosenberg and Yannick Thomas, recently cooperated with the most diverse companies, participating, for instance, in the 2013 revival of a Broadway classic, Pippin. Along with the "Best Revival of a Musical” distinction, the hugely successful show won three more Tony Awards.
The experience of these forays into different styles and performance modes also found its way into the company's latest show, though The Elephant in the Room is a Cirque Le Roux production through and through. Inspired by the world of black-and-white cinema and the atmosphere of the 1920s and 1930s, the show is a captivating blend of theatre, pantomime, acrobatics and revue, its genre defined by circus, comedy—and silver cufflinks! The abilities of the artists, who perform the most impossible tasks with the utmost ease, provided director Charlotte Saliou with unlimited liberty to fashion her concept. Both mirthful and hazily nostalgic, the tragicomic mood of The Elephant in the Room is made complete by Canadian composer Alexandra Streliski's exceptionally simple, understated music, which reminds one of the musical universe of Erik Satie, Philip Glass and the French Yann Tiersen.
