The music of Henryk Górecki impels listeners to ask fundamental questions about existence. Permitting them neither placidity nor lazy indulgence in the comfort of the everyday, it simultaneously sings the universe and resounds with the most human of voices. Thus it is the tension between the two that creates the true drama, in which he proclaims the truth and love of life, and art's eternal responsibility to us in shaping our fate. It would be impossible to spend too much time thinking abo...ut this matter: humanity is ruthlessly ruining its own environment, and thereby ensuring its own destruction. It is simply a question of time, even if were still possible to stop the process. But does mankind have enough insight, knowledge and wisdom to look past the needs of short-term prosperity so that the future can mean more than just the next day? So that our children's lives will seem to be about more than just obtainable goods? This not about grand words: these questions have to be asked. It's absurd that they are gradually starting to seem like platitudes, topics for popular discussion, while at the same time, only seconds in cosmic terms are left to us on this tiny planet. But we will watch our downfall from the comfort of the couch, through the television, with the detachment of an outsider. Of course, it could be that this is in the order of things, a part of eternal change. A process of purification ensues from time to time.
Enrico Morelli relates the story of a wedding ceremony in which the joy over the event is mixed with the pain and anger felt standing at the gate of a new secret of life. These mixed emotions trigger a dance that banishes the initial fears arising from the mysteries of sexuality and change. Before our very eyes, the characters of Morelli's choreography gradually leave their pure reality, becoming participants in a kind of symbolic initiation rite. This is the initiation rite of all of humanity, which attempts, throughout this unique and joyful dance, to shake off the sadness of the event, since the occasion is essentially a happy one. As the choreography progresses from step to step, the ardour and passion increases. The distance between the characters decreases, until the fears and doubts have gradually vanished, and now the continuously opening door that leads to a new life may be crossed.
