After Antiquity, waves of nomadic settlers and the centuries of Christianity led to a unified yet varied culture in our region which our traditions faithfully transmit. The performance relates the glorious battles of human feelings, love and death in the characterful colours of Spring (birth), Summer (fulfilment), Autumn (mortality) and Winter (dance of death). Like fresco fragments from an excavation, the inherited forms and treasures of millennia are melded together all within the swirl of a carnival. The historic past reawakens inspired by living traditions. Our familiar songs and dances, dressing up ethnic characters, prove our brotherhood with Europe. By developing archaic forms today we place our faith in the continuity of our joint culture. The spectacular dance vision, with its monumental scenes, sometimes dynamic, other times lyrical, evoke the influence of European culture, and as part of that, Hungarian culture, as it forms our world. It is worthwhile to marvel at it before globalisation imposes a unity on its varied colours. The picture that forms is both new and familiar and can be both empathised and identified with.
