In 1867, the Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary was formed, the necessity and unprincipledness of which event has been debated ever since. It is undoubted that the industry of Hungary jumped to development, theatres, universities, hospitals were built, and the Nationality Act (which was unusually liberal even in Europe) was created. Folk art started an unparalleled bloom, ornamental art thrived, and costumes became more colourful. At the same time, people of different nationalities lived toget...her in peace, guarding and preserving their particular dances, music and culture. In the first half of our show, we will present the still unfailing folklore treasures of the Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary, including colourful traditions, virtuoso dances, and the rich national dress culture of the nations, while also giving glimpses of the noble life of balls that existed beside (or above). In the second part of the night, we enchant this much-debated era of our history into a dance theatre show with the help of contemporary works of art, much humour, and ’film-like’ scenes; while we hope that the priceless treasures of Central European traditional cultures will suitably entertain the dance-loving audience. A program by the National Dance Theatre; a part of the ’Dance Forum No 7 – In Tribute to the International Dance Day’ program series.
